What is considered child abuse? According to the article “Encyclopedia: Child Abuse and Neglect” child abuse is classified as, “Any act (or failure to act) that causes a child serious physical or emotional harm or that places a child in imminent danger of such harm” (Encyclopedia: Child Abuse and Neglect par. 1). Burns, bruises, and or inappropriate sexual behavior that can not be explained can all be considered signs of child abuse (Doheny par. 13). When reports of child abuse are turned into law enforcement, child service agents will be notified.Agents with this information are expected to take action. Unfortunately, the agents are protected from fault of a crime, even if the agent has knowledge of child abuse and fails to act (Lundstrom par. 15). Child abuse should be blamed on more than the abuser’s actions; changing child services, expanding service income, improving child placement, emphasizing parent rehabilitation, improving law requirements, and expanding pedestrian accountability are steps child service agents need to take to improve child services.
